Now in his 70s, Ken Loach remains one of Britain's celebrated film-makers. Now the director of Kes (1969), Fatherland (1986) and AE Fond Kiss (2004) is gearing up for the World Premiere of his new movie Looking for Eric; in competition at this year's Cannes Film Festival, no less.
Loach is no stranger to Cannes, and his 2006 film The Wind That Shakes the Barley won the Palme D'or there in 2006. So one can expect big things from Looking for Eric - and that's before reading the movie's fantastic-sounding plot!
Postman and football fan Eric (Steve Evets) is watching his life go down the drain. As he attempts to cope with his chaotic family life, he harbours a secret love for his long-ago sweetheart Lily (Stephanie Bishop) that threatens to drive him to distraction. Salvation comes, however, in the form of famously philosophical footballer Eric Cantona (playing himself, obviously) who helps Eric confront the ghosts of the past...
Looking for Eric opens on June 12th from Icon Films, and you can check out the trailer below.
